Default 2008 Yamaha Raptor 350

Hello! I have found myself recently in love with sport atv's and am looking to buy a new or used atv for myself. I looked online for new four wheelers and the ones that caught my eye were the Yamaha Raptor 350 and Yamaha Raptor 250. I am 14 years old and weigh only 120lbs but I am 5'10. I want a atv that has low end and mid range power but that will run 60. I love manual atv's and know how to use clutch quite well. I mainly use four wheelers for riding flat land and i LOVE to slide, but i also like to climb dirt hills and ride trails. I want a four wheeler that is a good handler that has enough power to sling dirt when I dump the clutch. It would be nice if the quad could lift the tires in 1st and 2nd too but that's not priority. My brother also saw a Polaris Predator 500 near his house for sale. Will any of these four wheelers be right for me? I am buying these myself so please keep in mind that money is a factor. Sorry for the long paragraph but i want to get something that i am going to enjoy. Thanks, Bryce

well yamaha might remove the rappy 350 just because the 250 has done so well but its still undecided, i think ud be happy with a 400ex or a z400 honestly there one of the best all around quads for cheap i think, a 250 is really nimble and fun but its easy to outgrow its capabilities, the rappy 350 is decent but the bike is just outdated, reliability is awesome tho, both those machines will run up in the 50's a z400 will do around 65 id say 400ex prolly close, raptor 660 is another ok choice very good low end stump pulling power good top speed prolly around 70 but they sit high than alot of quads and some people dont like them because of it, but i gurantee ud be happy with either a 400ex (1500-3000 pirice range used most likely) or the z400(2500-4000 price range used) if i were you id go with a z400 that was a few years old with maybe a couple mods on it maybe

Hey, welcome to the forums darkside94. I would steer clear of the raptor 250 simply because, 1st they are new and you will not find a cheap used one, and 2nd you will be wanting something with a little more power very soon. The Raptor 350 is not a bad machine in my opinion. It looks sharp and handles decently. BUT, it is the competitor to the Honda 400ex. In my opinion the 400EX is a better machine. If you look you should be able to find 400ex's all over. I know I did. They are very common machines and when you want a little more power throw on an exhaust and it really wakes it up.

thanks soo much guys. where does the 400ex's powerband perform best? does it have a high center of gravity making it prone to tipping?

The 400ex has a pretty wide powerband. It does best in the low and mid range. That's what makes it great on trails. It can lug down with the best of them. Mine had a set of 22" tires. I dropped a tooth in front and The thing was nearly unstoppable.

It will slide with not much problem and it does do well with hill shoots. Now, I sold my EX and got the 450 because I started doing more open riding and hill climbing. I rarely go threw any trails that I miss my 400ex. But, when I do go through those trails boy do I miss it. The 450 is EXCELLENT at sliding and hill shoots. A 450 will cost you around 3500-4000 as opposed to the EX at 2000-2500. If you do alot of trail rides go for the EX.
