Default 200s recoil starter question.

I hear a lot of people saying that you don't really need the hook case ring and the gasket plate for the honda 200s and 185s recoil starters. Is this true?

Because the rebuild kit for a 200s doesn't come with either so maybe it isn't required, or they expect you to already have them.

any help or information would be awesome.

Thanks,

Monk

Default 200s recoil starter question.

I had the destinct pleasure of having to repair my pull cord. the hook case ring is attached to the decompression cable, and the gasket plate helps keep the hook case ring in place. I think your assumption is correct when it is not truly considered part of the recoil starter, but merely an attachement. From my understanding you could remove the decompression cable, but I read where someone did and realized that it did indeed serve a purpose. I need to take mine back off and use some gasket sealer to minimize the infiltration of water when I go through water. I hope this helps.

Default 200s recoil starter question.

my recoil starter doesn't even have a decompression cable hooked up to it, either one of them...

where would it hook up to, the only "hole" in the outer cover is the cord hole.

Thanks,

Monk

I believe that it is suppose to reduce the compression kikcback. If your 3 wheeler doesn't have it, then I would have to say that you do not need it then. The only reason I know about it is because my neighbor had one and was telling me the functionality of the decompression cable

That might explain the locking up of the recoil, if I pull is super hard, it'll turn over.

I'll just have to tinker with it I guess.

Thanks,

Just wanted to note that you don't technically need the decompression cable for the honda 200s atc, all it does is make is easier to pull start, but if you pull the little lever yourself, you get the exact same effect.
