only 2 other things i believe it could be :

bad power pack (cdi) , meaning it will run but not at high speeds or your out of time on your stator (mag pLate).
If its not carb , it i feel has to be one of those things causing your problem, and i would be leaning towards the cdi box.

a little about me : im in canada and hold a small engine macanics ticket.

things you could try AT your own Risk ! :

Remove your CDI Unit , Warm up your Oven to Low Tempature and Bake your Pack To remove any Moisture , Dont Over-cook it . You do not want to melt the Expocy out of it , you just wana try drying it out.
And than Try it on your Bike , Sometimes you can get problems from them due to cracked Epocy on back of CDI and water gets in them , causing loss of power and proformance.
And if it Dose Work for you , Than reseal it with ATV sealent (silicon) , Now it wont last 4 Ever but it would get you going should it be that.

My 2003 had the same problem when I bought it. There is a parking brake switch on the left handlebar. The switch is known for going bad. As opposed to replacing it, you can simply cut the wires and remove the switch. Then connect the 2 wires to each other and it should be good to go.

That is if the switch is your problem. Mine had a similar diagnosis though, started up and idled perfect. Any throttle appiled, it started popping and backfiring with no increase in RPMs.

Good to hear you are back up and running, I found out about the problem somewhere around these boards and am glad to pass on any help I can.
