So I'm the proud owner of a new Renegade 800X! Have a question on service contracts. I'm normally not a fan of any contract of any kind but thought I would ask the question to some people who might have some experience. My dealer wanted $999 for a three year contract that included all the maintenance and oil changes called out in the manual. Basically according to them two service maintenance trips to the dealer a year plus unlimited oil and filter changes according to the recommended service intervals. So that works out to be about $165 a service call over the life of the contract, which could be cheap or expensive depending on what they are currently going to service on the bike. I think that it is actually a little expensive seeing I like to do my oil/filter changes myself.

So is the dealer out of line on the price or is it reasonable? Any input is appreciated.
Cheers!

Congrats on the bike! I would stay away from that deal, I prefer to do my own maintenance. But maybe if you decline it, the dealer won't help you out on problems or warantee issues? Some dealers are great, some can be a$$'s...guess it depends if its worth it to YOU, and how the dealer will react/treat you if you don't take it...

Picking a good dealer is critical.

The is exactly what I did. I walked away and told them that I need to research it a little more. I do most of my maintenance myself but some things I don't prefer to do like valve adjustments, etc.

Hey Auztone....I bought an 07 Outlander 650 and the dealer screwed me on the warranty. And another dealer on the Maintenance. They kind of have this attitude that "if you didnt buy it here - you're crap"

Can am does not regualte or control the pricing - the dealer can charge whatever he/she wants to.... That being said, they all are different in their pricing and you can sure feel it in your wallet.

I myself found a John Deere dealer that is fantastic to me, their prices are good and so is their service.....and I REALLY looked around after I thought they were all the same...and found out they arent. I explained how the other dealers handled my business and they were empathetic towards me and promised that it would not happen there!! I also found a great spot for parts that wont kick your wallet to the curb - Alba Action Sports....excellent prices!!

Hey, Thanks for the reply. It's sad that you can't trust someone on their word. I have learned through the times that if you want something done right you need to do it yourself! However, as I have aged more I find that my time is more important than the money and it is hard to find reliable and trustworthy people to service your equipment. You have to rely more on word of mouth to make sure that you can leave your quad with someone!
