Master Cylender for Kodiak
#3
I thought that was for the front brakes,
Are there 2 resevours for front and back or is there just 1.
My front brakes work great so I naturally assumed that the on the handle bar was for the front.

The Rear Master cylinder is probably the same spot as it is on my 2007 Grizzly 450 (Kodiak 450).
Mine is located down on the frame right behind the "passenger side" Front A-arms, there might even be a plastic cover over it. It is located there because you have a Hand brake (left side of handle bar) and a Footbrake to activate the brakes...
Good luck!

The rear master cylinder is located up front on the left hand side, standing in front of the bike. You have to pull the the rack and then remove the black center plastic panel to get to it. You can't miss it.

I have always used the hand brake as a gauge. Even when mine was new, it did not seem to have as much foot brake as hand brake. There is a way to adjust the foot pedal, but since I have always been able to shift it into gear while using it, I just left it alone. I have just always used the hand brake while riding.

I just did the rear pads on my 2001 Kodiak and have no pedal, so befor I bleed it I need to know where the master is. I have looked but cant seem to find it .</end quote></div>
Did you just put in new pads or did you take apart the brake fluid lines? If you didn't do anything to let in air, you shouldn't need to bleed them. Is the problem some kind of cable adjustment?

Well all i did was replce the pads, i might note that there were no pads prior to this and i mean no pads, this thing was wearing away at the caliper itself. The poor bike was sevearly neglected.

Bleeding brakes is mostly used if air is allowed into the system. Taking off the caliper or the lines or the master cylinder. If the Master Cylinder is allowed to run empty, sucking in air can cause this problem also. I am guessing that there are cable adjustments to be made. Over time the cable will stretch and can cause low "pedal". If you don't have a factory manual I suggest getting it or if you don't want to spend that much money check into a Haynes manual. It is only about $20 and can be a help. Even better is to have both the Haynes and the Factory manual. You can get the Haynes on Amazon.com as well as other places.
