Rattle in high
#1
My 700 twin (nonEFI) when in highrange 2 wd and let off throttle, I hear a rattling sound, then it feels like im in lowrange, could this be a linkage problem or belt? only 700 miles. Thanks in advance.

Could possibly be drive line lash when throttling and let up. 700 "******" as I call it is more pronounced than the 500 because of the torque the 700 puts out. This was one of questions asked of me when the 700 came out in 2002. Even talked to engineers about this. This could be what your feeling or also can be belt flex on clutches that "SEEM" to gear down, also because of torque.

the twins are famous for the drive line soppy back lash that he is referring too. if its just a nise i would say that, but if it is actually effecting perfrocemance then its sometime esle. what does it do when this happens?

Could it be the EBS kicking in causing it to "feel" like low range?? My 700 twin has alot of slap in the drive line when you let off the throttle or go down a hill. I would think metal on metal is wear even know they say its "normal".

Like OPT and others have said sounds like driveline lash. Mine is most noticable when I lightly let up on the throttle and remove the load from the driveline. And as for the low range feeling,on my 800 if you quickly let off the throttle is will about throw you over the handle bars lol. Its the EBS.
Does your shifter move into the low range position when this happens?
