shaving the fenders??????

because it looks cool, and you can have more of an open look of the terrain your riding through and keep an eye on your front end a little more, u wanna do it i can tell u how i do it, but beware puddles and mud will really get all over you with shaved fenders lol

Like 91Warrior357 said it is a visibility thing that is very helpfull. One other thing on the mini quads that have limited HP is the collection of mud. Any extra weight is not good and considering a handfull of mud can weigh in quite heavy. But like said before make sure you have some tearoffs on your goggles if it is muddy.

Fenders get shaved for aerodynamic efficiency and the "cool, custom" look. I think the above posters are off with the visibility thing, because if you are racing then there is no time to be looking at what your front end is doing, or at the terrain immediately in front of the quad either. Resale value tends to drop if you shave the fenders, more so if you do a poor job at it. You are going to lose quite a bit of mud protection depending on the cut. In the end, it is your machine, do what you want with it. Personally, I don't see any need for shaved fenders on a trail/play machine.

If you have raced mini's at all you know for your self that visibility is huge, yes maybe it shouldn't be directly in front of your tires but in the corners it is. I am refering to the ruts that the big quads make and if the mini's drop their front tire into it they are done. So believe what you want but you need to see where your front tire is going on a mini and if it is cutting the extremely huge front they have so be it, we do it and I wouldn't have it anyother way for him.

There are many reasons racers do it........ one is obviously weight, you can easily shave off a few pounds of plastic especially in the old days.
People also used to do it to have better vision of wheel location in XC racing especially.......
In MX they do it so their is less drag and uplift when they are flying 100-feet over a huge jump.....believe it or not, those fenders will slow you down in the air quite a bit when they are acting like wings.....
Another reason is that (and this was more true in the old days) that the fenders would bounce around too much with the speed and impact of racing and break..... so guys would cut them to stop them from flapping around.....
So with all those reasons just about every racer has a reason to do it....... of course now the modern race ATVs are coming out with fenders that hardly even need to be cut at all...... you can run almost all of the 450s with totally stock plastic and not have a problem.....

hey scooter if you read his post...he said he wanted to know why SOME PEOPLE shave fenders on a racing 4wheeler... that doesnt include him or warriors, he was asking why other people do it, a warrior in no terms is for racing except XC in the older days. he was just wanting an opinion from people of why they do it, and how they benefit from it.
