i was wondering if anyone has had problems with coolant corroding the magnesium clutch new for the 05 z400s. i heard it before and was wondering if anyone had this problem?

 

Yes there were several people here who had problems....... I changed mine to aluminum as soon as I heard about the issue.... but before I did that I took my cover off to check it and it was indeed starting to corrode and become blocked....... so I cleaned it for that weekend then put the new one on a couple weeks later......

 

They put a recall out on those for that specific reason. Don't know if you're 05 is covered, but I'd check with your local dealer to see.

 

no its new with only 10 hours on it and the guy wants 3900 but how much does an aluminuim cover cost and did they have these problems on the 04 06 07 and 08 or did they correct it after 05?

American Suzuki's records indicate you are the current owner of a 2005 or 2006 Suzuki LT-Z400 ATV.

Suzuki has received field reports on 2005 and 2006 model LT-Z400 ATVs regarding erosion of the magnesium clutch cover in the sealing area adjacent to the water pump cavity. This erosion can affect the sealing ability of the clutch cover and in extreme cases allow engine coolant to contaminate the oil.

While we have received reports of the erosion, very few cases of coolant seepage have occurred.

It is common that over time corrosion occurs in the cooling system of motor vehicles and periodic maintenance such as flushing and cleaning is required. Starting with the 2005 models, the clutch cover material for the LT-Z400 was changed from aluminum to magnesium. Suzuki engineers have determined that the erosion found in the 2005 and 2006 model LT-Z400 clutch cover is not normal and is a result of a chemical reaction between the magnesium alloy and the coolant. Suzuki has decided that the best long term solution is to conduct a Customer Satisfaction Program and replace the clutch cover with one constructed of aluminum. In addition to replacing the clutch cover, your dealer will replace the engine
oil, the oil filter and the coolant at no cost to you.

Contact your Suzuki dealer to schedule an appointment for the Customer Satisfaction Program service.

Your dealer will then order replacement parts and schedule a service appointment for your LT-Z400 ATV. Parts are currently available for your dealer to order.

During your pre-ride inspection, if there is no indication of engine oil contamination (oil is milky in color) found and the engine coolant level is normal, it is OK to operate your ATV. If engine oil contamination is found or coolant level is abnormal, please contact your Suzuki dealer to make an appointment for this Customer Satisfaction Program service before operating your ATV.

If you do not reside near the dealer from whom you purchased your ATV, or you purchased your ATV from a private party, you can contact the nearest authorized Suzuki dealer to schedule an appointment for the service. You can obtain information about Suzuki dealers in your area by calling the toll-free dealer locator telephone number of 800/828-7433.

To save yourself time and travel, do not bring your LT-Z400 to your Suzuki dealer until you have made an appointment. Please be aware that no other conditions or service is covered by the Customer Satisfaction Program. The cost of any additional service you ask your dealer to perform is your responsibility.

k that helps alot. im starting to wonder if i tell the guy that he will come down on his price being as i do not want to spend 3900 dollars on an atv beings as i cant get rid of my warrior.

 

My coolant is leaking at the same location as everyone elses tho but i have an 04 i dont get it?? should i try to get ahold of suzuki to see what they say?

 

The 2004 was not affected with the issue because they had aluminum covers stock. So yours should be excluded from that recall. Unless it is a freak late model 2004 or something that somehow got the magnesium cover.....but you can look for yourself to see if it is aluminum or not.

Your leak could just be a seal breaking down. It does happen sometimes. I'd just get a new gasket set for the side cover, and take it off. Either way you will need to take it off and see if it is aluminum for sure. So get the gaskets and check the passage is clear of blockage.

 

ya ill have to take it off and look.. does it have a marking to know if its mag or not?? i already replaced one gasket back there and that didnt do it.. i think its the one on the water pump cover. thanks for the info tho

 

oh and u say to check passage.. wel what passage do u mean?? i haveit off now and cant tell if its aluminum or not..
