05 800 EFI quad Any good? What to expect?
#1
Been looking at a friends 2005 Hunter edition 800 efi quad that he wants to sell. He bought a razor and now he only drives that now..
It has about 110 hours and 700 miles so far, he hasn't done a belt yet and just a few oil changes on it.
He is asking 6k canadian for it.. with an extra set of ITP wheels and mudlites.
Is this quad worth it? are there any major problems needing to be addressed with these quads?
Is a belt hard to do etc?
Are these things POS's?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

05's had heat shileld issues where it would melt the plastic. some 05's had fuel pump failures. dont know about canada price but it seems a little high in price. imo.

Really judging from the responses being only one, its probably a bad idea to buy a polaris.
I think i'm just going to go buy a new 09 grizzy instead, less headaches and seems like a better company.
thanks for your reply.

I like my 05 800. The comfort, shift pattern, awd, power. My machine has been used as a work horse pulling logs & trailers but also has been on quite a few miles of trails mud hunting. Has had its problems fan got noisy, still worked just was louder. Had to get the water pump seal replaced as was seeping out the weep hole. Has like 80 hrs and about 1200 miles. Whenever I go for a new machine the Poo seems to wind up in my garage due to it being what I need in a machine.

Judging from some feedlot operators I talked to today who go through about 25 quads in 10 yrs, they said the only thing worse they had was a bombardier. Their polaris's were needing repairs more often then the kawasakis or the hondas even their yamahas.
I just don't want to spend money on a lemon when I could spend a few more K and just get a new one with warranty. Then I know how it was ridden and taken care of.
From the threads on here and people i've spoke to everyone seems to tell me if you like to tinker a polaris is for you?
My brother has an 09 brute force which seems ok.. I am leaning towards the Grizz because I get a deep discount on parts at a local dealership. Also my years with yamaha dirtbikes and my current WR450 hasn't given me any problems at all.

in all my expereince in quad riding i know one thing is for certain, and thats fuel injected motors run smoother then carburated motors, i say get it if you like it, but watch out when buying a used quad, its not what its worth that matters, its what people are willing to pay... 3 years ago i sold a 98 yz125 that i only had 800 bucks into for 1500 bucks because i added some cheap ebay bought racing graphics and a fresh layer of paint on the rims and handlebars...

Here Here JF!
Nothing wrong with other Quads, sometimes its just personal
preference, can't blame people for doing their research and stuff. I can tell
ya there is not a person I know who has had Hondas and Yamahas (Dirt bikes
and Quads) that don't do repairs. My cousin had his YZ back in the day and I
had my Kaw. We both done our share of fixes. No brand debates here but things
also have come a long way in the engineering and technology end. Grizzy's are
nice but so are Polaris too. Its what you want to pay for, what you want in a Quad,
what you really like - IMO
P.S It is true its all how you not only RIDE'EM but how you TAKE CARE of 'em too!

I would think that if it is your "friends" quad, he would not sell it to you if it is a POS. He should know how reliable it has been. If it has been well taken care of, you have a better chance of having fewer problems. I think every quad has problems. Some more than others. Good luck.
