Default Can you regear a 2004 Rincon

I have a 2004 650 rincon, We use it for my wife to ride. It will run 28 mph in 1st gear is there a way to regear it so it will hold back better. Something like changing the gear ratio in the diff.

The gear reduction kits on the market are like a 28% reduction or so.

They are intended to improve performance with 29" and up tires, but I don't think they have enough of a reduction to improve compression hold back on downhill sections. Also they are fairly expensive and about 5 hours or more of work to install.

The Rincon has excellent handling, reliability, and probably the best suspension of any IRS 4x4 I've ever ridden- but I'd count the lack of a low gear or low range as one of the biggest bonehead things Honda has ever done.

Bottom line: I doubt you would be happy with a gear reduction kit if you are looking for better hold back, so I guess the choices are either get used to using the brakes when you need to steep downhill below about 12, or if you can't tolerate that I think you would be better off trading it off.
