Default yfz psotive crank case vent hose

anyone know if the crank case vent hose that runs to the airbox needs to be hooked up, or can it be left dangling. The problem is I took my bike to the carwash and when riding it back it decided to spew oil into the airbox lots of it. I was able to shut it off and it didn't cause any damage, just a huge freaking mess to clean all the oil out of airbox and carb. anyone know where water might have leaked in to cause this?

You can re-route it somewhere else and stick a filter at the end of it to keep the dust/water out... Otherwise I'd leave it where it is...
