trail riding ltr 450?
#1
Hi, I live on a farm and there are a lot of trails there that would be fun to ride on with a fast 2x4 quad.
I found A deal on a 2006 Suzuki ltr 450 for $3600 that is mint condition. No joke.
What would it take for it to be a good woods riding trail quad?
Or should i ride it just stock?
P.S. I know it doesn't have reverse

I believe the ltr has 18" stock tires. You'll need go bigger and compensate with a gearing change.
Also, I believe the ltr is much wider than other 450's. Makes it hard to fit in the tight places.

They are also 50" wide so if you have very tight woods it might not fit through very easily....
You can modify anything to work well anywhere if you have the time and money. So for that price I would buy it and then worry about what you can or cannot do with it later. Even if you hate it, for that price you can probably sell it the same day for a profit if it is as mint as you say.

yeah you could definitely sell that and make some profit like ss97 said, if you end up not likn it. then maybe find a 400cc class quad (400ex,z400) for less then 3600. either of those bikes would be great for trails and with a few mods could be almost competin with the 450's on the straight aways. you would beat em on the trails though

i echo every thing suggested: good price, bad choice for trails. its too wide and that yr did not have much down low unless you put the c-bomb on it. for 07 or 08, they made over 100+ improvements that didnt get much press time as it should have gotten. 06 around here are still sitting in some showrooms too. $3600 can also buy a nice used z400; then you wouldnt have to hope someone bought it from you and take a gamble; ive seen z400's for $4400 brand new. dealers want to dump these too in favor of the new 09s with EFI.

Well, if it's squeezing between the trees riding, or a large amount of slow-speed riding, I say NO.
Otherwise, I say yes. You'll likely want to go up on tire size, and skid protection, re-gear and focus all your mods on helping improve the low and mid-range power.... because in general, the 450's make their power higher in the rpm band, which can make them tiresome to ride in the woods.
