DS salvage value?
#1
OK, I'll swallow my pride and tell my story. I was riding today and totalled my quad. There's no doubt either. A-arms are blasted, swingarm is bent and twisted, axle is tacoed, and numerous parts are still at the bottom of the hill it rolled down. Anyway, the good thing is that it's insured, so I'll be getting another. My question here is if anybody would have an idea on what the motor is worth. The motor, from what I can see, is ok. It started and there was plenty of oil pressure. I can't see salvage value on this quad being more than $1000. Would it be worth my while to buy back salvage, pull the motor and radiator and sell it? If I'm not mistaken Rotax engines aren't cheap. I would most likely ebay it. The quad had maybe 20 hours on it at the very most. I got it in late November. Any info here would be great. Thanks!

There are a couple of guys in here who have nonoperational engines, you might see if you can work something out with one of them, this could be beneficial for both you and them. I'm hearing them talk about rebuilding the current engine for $3000, but if they could buy your used one fully assembled and operational for your guesti-mated price of $1000, I'm sure they might jump at the chance.

I'm starting to get a lot of requests for possible parts off this wrecked quad, so I've set up an email address for this. Please send any requests with your name to WRECKEDATV@aol.com I'll see how this goes. If I'm getting a lot of multiple requests I might go to ebay with this stuff. A couple of things... I just filed this claim today so it will be a little while until I get things finalized, and I still may yet decide not to purchase the quad as salvage if it has ridiculous buyback price. The second thing is that while I want to be able to help people out here, please understand that I'm not doing this to break even. These prices will be significantly less than a dealer, but that doesn't mean I'm going to give stuff away. I want to make some money for my effort and to put back into my next quad. I'll help you guys out if I can, but help me out by not giving me ridiculous offers. I've sold a lot of stuff when I was into 4wheeling, and some of the offers I got for stuff were ridiculous. But, I don't plan on retiring on this either. Hopefully everybody walks away happy.

I heard about a couple of DS650 in here w/only 20 hours on them that the motors took a $3000 crap.Could this be another of those good deals on 20 hour machines??Think i'd rebuild mine or buy a crate motor from bomb($2200) i was told.Unless it's real cheap. My 2 cents

I will show you the pics of the quad, it is definitely wrecked. This motor was running killer when I wrecked it, and it sucks that I did it because I'll bet that I paid less brand-new for this quad than 99% of the people in here. If somebody wants to pay 2200 for a new motor, good for them. They will be missing out on a good deal. And if nobody does buy it, no problem. I'll have a spare motor to punch out or do whatever with.

Where did it come off that I'm trying to cheat people here? Hey Kelly, did something I say imply that I was selling a bad motor? I've sold many, many different parts off both motorcycles and trucks and I've never once had anybody dissatisfied. Please explain to me what I said that makes it sound like I'm out to screw somebody.

I don't think anybody said you are trying to screw anybody. But you are going to try to get a premium price that somebody has to take your word on.A good deal maybe, but then again that's what we thought when my brother bought his DS used at a great price.(20 hour machine also ,very strange)But 15 minutes after it 1st started it didn't seem like that good of a deal. That was very apparent that something was wrong w/his 20 hour machine. Then the mechanic handed the $3000 estimate it was confirmed(not a good deal). And yes it looked very new.screwing anybody, doubt it.But if i'm buying a used 20 hour motor it better be CHEAP.
