Default Dang - I put tacky lube on my o-ring chain

It was a mistake. My wife's has a regular chain and mine has the o ring chain. I just wasn't thinking and I lubed both with the same stuff - the tacky stuff. Boy did it ever bind up my chain. I'll clean it with kerosene tonight and start over. Would chainsaw bar & chain oil work for a lube?

Personally, I'd buy some O-ring chain lube. I used to use PJ-1 on the last O ring chain motorcycle I had.

It seems like the purpose made chain lube sprays on thin so it can penetrate, then when the solvents in it dry off what is left is stickier, thicker and waxier so it won't sling all over the place.

yeah it would..

you dont have to get crazy
wd-40 is nice
dry graphite is nice if you dont hit the water to much
all those chain lubes in a can work well

you dont want anything thick and sticky, it picks up and holds dirt

Well, I took the chain off and soaked it in kerosene. Man, it's got some links in it that are almost non-moveable. I mean they are TIGHT. I worked with it for about 30 minutes and finally gave up and let it soak overnight. Is there any way to free a chain up? I find it hard to believe that the tacky lube caused this. I think it was like that when I bought it and I didn't notice.
