New wheels for new tires?
#1
I have an 03 (and love it), but the rear tires are bald and the front is marginal at best. I have been looking at replacement tires and see stockers are REAL expensive, and aftermarket tires are hard to find in the stock sizes (rear tires 22 x 10-11, front tires 21 x 8-9). What's the thought on buying new wheel sizes that are popular & easier to fit? If a good idea, what's a good wheel size? I'm assuming a 12X10 in the rear and maybe a 12 X 8 in front? Where is a good place to buy cheap steel wheels? I'm already looking at craigslist etc.
One more thing, this ATV is my kids, so while better tires would be great, much larger tires are not in the picture.
Thanks for any thoughts!!

You don't need new rims. Those size tires are basic. I have a suzuki Ozark 250 That comes with 22x10-9 tires in the rear and 22x7-11 in the front. Now, I have Interco Swamp Lites in the rear (22x11-9) and have the stocks up front. If you're not buying bigger tires, you don't need bigger rims. A 12x10 rim is what they use on the big 4x4 ATVs. Wait a second, what ATV do you own?
My rule is, only go one inch taller and one inch wider than the stock tires if you are still using the stock rims.
Hope this helped somewhat!! And...welcome to the forums!~

[Homer voice] Doh!! [/Homer voice] it's a Bayou 250, it was in the title, but I was afraid only Bayou guys would read the post!

Yeah, sorry. Okay, at least i know im dealing with another 250 guy. I took another look at your rim sizes and if you want to buy new rims, I suggest buying 10x10 for the rear and 10x7 for the front. These will give you the most options for tires. I heard the bayous are great ATVs! I also heard they are really reliable! how do you like yours?
Try taking a look at rockymountainatv.com and see what they have for rims.

I love it. I bought it for my kids, I have a Rubicon. The little Bayou seems reliable as a rock. I was looking at Ozark's also, everyone says they rock, but I got too good of a deal on the Bayou!!

Yeah, I was looking around for a recon 250, bayou 250, or an ozark 250, or something with 4x4. but i went with an ozark, partially because i didn't think i needed 4x4, that is until i entered my swamp for the first time.... My stock tires completely slicked over and the swamp i have is suctiony so it made it twice as hard to get it out. Now i bought interco swamp lites and they work fenominal in all conditions, including hard packed trails which comes after my swamp. they offer up a very smooth ride and great traction, plus, your kids would love the 1 inch lugs! just a thought if you buy new rims...

The tires on a Bayou are a really weird size and your best off with stock front tires and what ever on the back unless you want something cheap like duros. Best get on an ATV store "TUCKER ROCKY" and look around! Hope it helps!
