Default need help on trailboss 250 r/es

ok, fellas i need a little info for a polaris atv. It is a 85 to 88 trailboss. It has 120 psi compression and holds it a couple of minutes before bleeding off pressure in the bottom end. Has 2 gallons 0f just bought premium gas and a brand new plug a bpr8es. I was told it ran fine till throttle cable broke and they could'nt get the exact one but the dealer sold them one to work . I have adjusted it where it is operating right plus i went through the carb and think that i have it right. Here is the problem i have . It will run on ether but when it runs out then it quits, and also it seems like it has to crank alot to hit and run too. Any ideas anyone?

IF starts on ether only ,THEN either still have carb problem or can even be bottom end compression (crank seals) even if have decent top end compression. Fire, fuel, air, compression, gota be one or the other. If done leakdown test and not holding like you say, seals could be problem. Also takes BR8ES not BPR8ES plug.

How would i ckeck the bottom end pressure and what should it be? Had a kawasaki jet ski once and was told it was ten in the bottom of them. The dealer sold me the bpr8es and said that it was it so i did'nt know better to contradict him or his book. I have a br8es and will change it though, looks to me like the only difference is the unshrouding of the bottom of the plug core.

BPR8ES is an extended probe plug, sets deeper, not needed in 250 engine. IF have exhaust blockoff plug, plus carb adapter and pressure tester SHOULD hold 7 psi WITHOUT any leaking! (MUST use low pressure device such as bicycle pump) Can also spray soapy water around base gasket, carb manifold, plus crank seals to see if bubbling and leaking(if have stripped down to crank seals, replace anyway!!
