Don't know how to do it, but yes, it will work. Been done many times before. I do know you have to take the engine out, remove the top end, and split the bottom cases. I have always dismanteled my engines down to the bottom end and let the professionals handle splitting the cases and transmission.

Yes we have done this several times ( we split our own case and do all the work our selves, to expensive otherwise ) but we are not sure how the 02 and up gears should go to work on the 01.

Yes raptor tranny.com went thru it myself the 02 is way better different gear ratios and all. You must change it all the 01 tranny is not even a good boat anchor. Sorry to hear you lost one too it's a lot of $ While your in there get the head ported and polished, maybe a cam and a piston it sure wakes them up.

I switched trannys six years ago and have lots of mods to the engine, have not been touched by another 660, 450, or even the new 700 although some very built banshees have thrown sand in my face I do very well against most. I have not had one glitch in the tranny since the rebuild. The 02 tranny is bullet proof. He should reconsider if the tranny is his concern.

Why a 05? I think that they are all the same from 02 to 07 so I guess it does not matter, but why the 05?

Hey one more thing while your in there. Get a L&A one way for the starter, I just went through my second GYTR. If I had only known, I would have used the L&A last time, Life time warranty and it's lighter and cheaper than the piece of crap from YAMAHA. It's a shame that they won't back up faulty tranny's or other part's that have failed do to poor design. The Raptor is a good all around quad, just has some issues to tend to to make it great. I couldn't see myself on anything else.
