Trail boss 325. forward problem (gearbox)
#1
hi everybody.
i really need your help i dont understand my problem.
into my Trail boss 325 few month ago i'have a big song like "clac/clac/clac" when i go forward full power and when try to climb.
so i open the gearbox, i saw all it's OK (i think!).
il looking the DRIVEN CLUTCH, i saw the button ramp it's in bad condition.
i change the 3 buttons ramp the ring and add a new belt.
i reassemble all.
now i have allways the same problem, i CAN NOT climb or go full power in forward, it's ok in reverse.
i listen the song i have 'gree/gree/gree' , the song come from gearbox, many vibration.
So il reopen the gearbox, i discover small part of filings.
but i dont undersant where is the problem
SPROCKET-19T
OR
ENGAGEMENT DOG-HIGH/REV
OR GEAR,21T
or another parts !!??
Do you know this problem ?
Many thank's by advance for your help.

SILENT CHAIN runs the forward gears, reverse is gear to gear and never usually a problem. IF drive sprocket, rear sprocket and chain ok and no teeth on front sprocket broken/chipped,THEN most likely transmission INTERNAL silent chain jumping teeth. Have replace several especially on hard use machines. If internal chain has slack, probably the cause. PLUS double check teeth on BOTH sprockets that chain is on . IF clutches have been repaired only thing can think of! Also is fwd/rev shift fork worn on edges? Are engagement dogs on gears worn/shiny?

many thank's "old polaris tech" ;-)
Yes it's a old hard used machine, often with a trailer.
and with your explanation i found this from another forum :
"In a chaincase with the silent chain, use SAE 30 or a specific chain oil. 80 or90 wt gear oil os way too thick to lube properly untill warmed up, and in the meantime, you are heating the chain too much and it will stretch sooner."
and also the oil used and the traill boss it's not correct.
Hard use + bad oil, the "silent chain" stretch sooner
when i re-monting new part , i informed you
thank's

It's running yet ;-)
Many thank's OLD POLARIS TECH
I would never have imagined that the silent chaine, so hard, can relax
The trail boss is ready to fetch some wood ;-)
Respect..

If you use the AGL tranny lube you can get a longer life out of chains.Any time I have a tranny apart it gets chain it is a fairly simple task

I have been having a similar condition, though not as severe. It only kinda bumps two or three times when you leave from a dead stop. What is the likely hood that the gears will be fine and all that is needed is the silent chain?
New primary belt and chain/sprocket sets already installed.
thx

I actually just bought the above referenced bike with a title for 500$ from a friend of mine at work. It needed a silent chain I just finished putting one in, no big deal at all. More work to take the bike apart, and put back together than do the actual tranny work....buy a manual tho...and a clutch puller.

On the manual and puller!! Good price on the T/Boss
Labor is the main cost to replacing a 35 buck chain. A lot of dealers go by the flat rate guide X 1.5 for non warranty work. You save some good money doing it your self!
