I don't know for certain, but the '85 was a 100% new design and I imagine that the parts will not interchange without extensive modification.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the 84 have a right side chain unlike the 85 and 86 that has the more common left side chain?

I could see this as a problem. You could possibly flip the swingarm upside down, but all the tabs would be on the wrong side.

I KNOW THE DRIVE IS ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE AS AN '85 I COULD POSSIBLY REVERSE BEARING CARRIER AND AXEL TO PUT DRIVE ON THE RIGHT SIDE.I THINK THE '85 MOUNTS TO THE BIKE IN THE FRONT THE SAME AS THE '84. WILL HAVE TO TRY IT AND FIND OUT. THANKS FOR THE REPLYS.

The front mounts will have to be checked for diameter and width. What shock do you plan on running, how close are the mountings/geometry/travel length?

Also you will have to check the carrier section width, if it is not correct it could throw the chain out of alignment with the engine.

You will most probably also have to have an '85-86 axle, sprocket, and brake hardware (mountings are '85 specific too).

There are all kinds of unforseen problems with swaps such as this, usually not worth the effort.

What are you trying to accomplish with this swap? I would imagine an '84 swingarm would be pretty easy to find cheap. Seems like I have seen a couple go thru eBay for next to nothing.

I HAVE FOUND AN EXTENDED '85 SWINGARM, AND WOULD LIKE TO EXTEND MY BIKE. I CAN'T FIND ANY ONE WHO HAS AN '84 EXTENDED SWINGARM.

BUT LIKE YOU SAID I FOUND A STOCK SWINGARM AND SHOCK FOR PRETTY CHEAP, I AM GOING TO EXTEND IT MYSELF OR AT LEAST TRY.

Do you have this swingarm? If so what kind of condition is it in? If you are not going to use is, how much would you want for it?
