Default 2004 sportsman 600...... overheating

electric fan won't come on. no air locks in system, proper antifreeze/water mixture. ran power to fan, works fine.
would it be the sensor from the rad is shot?
also, turn the headlights on and they shut off a few minutes later along with the LCD readout on the dash. wtf?

Check both thermal fuses for corrosion, getting hot, breaking circuit, especially if loose power. One in front of battery, one under front cover, both in black plastic pouches. If fuses have power on both sides of red wires when lights shut of,check for wiring short in harness in pod where speedo and headlight harness tied together. Had one machine than that had short in this area that did same thing you are describing, speedo would go blank and lights would go out. On fan issue could be sensor, but check fuses especially one under pod, could be issue.

thanks for reply old polaris tech. I have seen these plastic pouches and wasn't sure what they were since they are moulded to the wiring harness, didn't want to cut them open. Never noticed one in front of the battery but will look again.
If the fuses seem fine and no sign of a short, what else could i look for?

Just wanted to thank you old polaris tech.
i took your advice and checked the fuses in those black plastic pouches. both fuses, one for the electric fan, and one for the LCD display and headlights were both rusted and corroded so bad, they almost crumbled in my fingers. replaced them both and everthing works perfect now. bad design on Polaris if these fuses are rotting in these (pouches).
keep up the good work,
Thanks again....

Good design and function to TRIP and reset, eliminating constant glass fuse or plug in fuse replacement,BUT water, heat from link itself can sometimes cause problems!
