new yamahas quality ? rant!
#1
I bought 2 Wolverines few months ago, they were shipped to europe, where I now live, so I got them only few days ago. They were brand new and garaged in us, all this time. When they arrive I open the crates and I see rust, and a lot of it.
suspension, theres rust on the springs (bottom) showing through the plastic covering, rust near the bottom seals, most screwes are either oxydating or rusting already, and most disturbing rust on the frame, on welds....
I know wolverines are not top of the line 800cc quads but I kinda expected more quality from yamaha. I feel like they used the cheapest pos materials they could get, I'm only glad they used so much plastic, by this time next year I should at least have decent looking fairings....
And whats the deal with the paint on the frame, is it suposed to last 5 days at the dealership to be rusting so soon! grrr...
i know I'm wining a little, but i like my sh.t to be in tip top shape, I used a whole can of wd40 and looks better but, its not gonna stop the rust for long.
so now I'm looking into some quality shocks, controll arms? are there any aluminium available?

Maybe the salt water from being shipped over seas has something to do with the rust problem. I have never seen ANY quad rust that bad - ever. Or you may want to talk to the shipping company and whoever crated them up. Maybe they were not crated correctly to handle the ship ride through the ocean? I wouldn't blame Yamaha just yet.

they are shipped in containers, with other packages, theres no humidity, especially in wintertime, well I guess it doesnt matter now
I getta do something about it, anybody know what paint to use on the frame?
regular walmart black spray can will do?

I live and work in europe now
they were bought at a yamaha dealership in illinois and stored at my parents garage all this time, no rust when bought.

Were they rusty before they were put in containers? Did your parents ever notice any rust? Something else had to cause the rust other than being a piece of crap. Were they stored beside some pool chemicals or other corrosives in your parent's garage?

I have an 07 Wolverine and it does not have any rust on it I have been riding it for a year and half now. Something sounds fishy about this. My buddy has an o6 and has no issues with rust. It seems to me that the ocean trip would have caused this. Salt is very corrosive.
