DONT see why not! In Texas you can make a 4 stroke dirt bike legal with just the addition of headlight,tail/brakelight ,mirror, and horn! Look at the Can Am SPYDER: 2 wheels in front, one in rear, but considered a motorcycle! Even our PIAGGO MP3 scooter,2 wheels front, one rear.

here in Iowa you can ride golf cart in town why not UTV ,,,,, I can ride my UTV from farm to farm but not in town ,,, at least with the UTV you can keep up with traffic

But in Texas if it has 4 wheels, and is titled as on ORV, they will not consider it to be ridden on public roads. You may get some farm use out of it, but as far as riding up to the store and back, technically it's illegal.
Then again, it's more up to the officer that sees you.

Their Saying as long as you have the safety/signal/Insurance equipment and stay on roads or streets with a speed limit of 40 mph then you will be able to ride them with the proper gear and lights, Could be fun going to work on the side streets but I think it would take a toll on the quad Someone in our senate said that they are safer than motorcycles.

Golf carts don't usually give negative impressions. Never seen anyone doing a wheelie or donuts in a golf cart to show off.

Boy did you ever hit the nail on the head. We, or rather certain elements within our community, are the ones who sink us. The ones who ride like idiots, tear things up, ride loud pipes and tresspass are teh ones who torpedo the whole works for everyone else.
As for legalizing ATVs and UTVs for on-road use, there isn't a real logical case for them not to be legal. You allow bicycles, motorcycles, trikes and even horses adn buggies on the streets so why not ATVs? As long as the operator isn't tearing around riding wheelies, running over people's yards or riding an obnoxiously loud piped ATV then they shouldn't be hassled. If they're acting the fool and being a pest then throw the book at them. Make the fines hurt and hurt bad.

Here in Norway it`s the other way round. It`s NOT legal to ride in the terrain but if the bike is registered like a MC it`s road legal. A farmer who want to use his atv on the farm must buy this stupid european rebuilt machine: http://sportsfiske.nu/foto/arkiv/26271/66548_s.jpg There are mounted some humongus mirrors, new uggly lights and a tractor seat on top of the original seat with 4" springs (!) And it`s not able to go faster than 40 km/h.

Here in Indiana we are allowed to ride ATV's or UTV's on any county road as long as you are registered with the DNR and have insurance on the ATV. Its great we can ride for miles! From my house we can ride clear to Illinois on an ATV.
