2003 Trailblazer 250
#1
I just got a Polaris Trailblazer 250 and am trying to get it to start with no luck. It needed a new starter so i installed that buttoned everything back up and it started on the first start with no problem whatsoever. so i let it run for about 5-10 minutes and then shut it off and started it back up again with no problem and then shut it off and tried to start it again and now it just plain wont start. I've tried cleaning the carb, new spark, tested it to make sure its got spark and it has plenty. i know its getting fuel so my question is where do i go from here? Compression problem maybe? my next step is to do a compression test to see what ive got. anyone know how much compression these things are supposed to have?

compression is supposed to be above 115psi but can run at 100psi. i agree with the above post. the easiest way to check is to pull start it. the starter might be pulling too much juice from the electrical that theres not enough left over to send to the spark plug. there ahve been a few cases there the pickup coil is not spaces correctly and the starter wont start the motor but it will fire everytime from the pull start.

Thanks for the replies. I know it had enough juice because we hooked a jump box up to the battery. So i did a compression test and i geuss 50 psi probably isnt enough to start it huh? looks like im gonna have to rebuild the top end. Any recommendations for a rebuild kit?

get a wiseco or numara top end kit. your probably going to have to rebore it. i would take it to a machine shop and have them check it then order a top end kit and take the cylinder and the piston back up to the shop to get it rebored that way it is bored for *that* piston in that kit. get better results that way.

Well its running! I went with the wiseco kit and had it rebored. its running stronger than i bet it has for a long time. already took it through some trails we have out back behind the shop. Goddamn these things are fun! went off some jumps (which by the way i do not recommend for the novice rider aka me). So another question now. what psi do you guys run your tires at?

i usually run them a little soft. makes up for rougher bumps along the trail. glad to hear you got it going again. the 250's have plenty of power in them and a lot of times can go where the heavier machines cant.
