welcome to my world

I called gorilla and I had to replace the end set of gears, the next time I used it, same thing, so i replaced them again, then it did it again and I sent it back and they sent me a new one, and I haven't used it

it was a big pain in my a$$
I should have bought a Warn in the beginning
they sent me all the parts and a call tag and stuff all for free, but it got old

Probably nothing wrong with it. It has dynamic braking instead of mechanical so it isn't designed to hold tension like that.

These winches are not made for holding a load and you should never use it to secure your wheeler to a trailer. They are only for pulling a load and then to be released, not for holding a load.

that is correct. that is why i wanted on eon my warn but the dealer screwed up(big suprise) when he oreded it for me but there more money for sure. p.s ive used my warn winch to hold down my wheelers for years w/out any issues. your not to suppose to bottom out your suspenion when cranking it down anyways so there shouldnt be that much stress on it. imo.

+1. The owners manual on a few of my winches said you're never supposed to use it to tie down the ATV, so I don't. No problem. That's what tie-down straps are made for. And they're a lot cheaper to replace than a winch when they break.

imo. if you have that much tention on holding downthe wheeler there is something really wrong. winches would have a hard time holding a heavy load right straight ahead, but holding a wheeler down shouldnt be an issue unless the winch is junk. imo.

I've never used the winch to secure the machine to the trailer, but have to agree that it shouldn't cause a problem. But if the Gorrilla doesn't hold tension then I guess it wouldn't work for that. Even in normal winching situations you need it to hold tension sometimes, at least temporarily. Winchs have a duty cycle so you when pulling a heavy load, such as pulling someone out of a mudhole, you have to give it a break, and bumping the winch so to speak sometimes,if the winch didn't hold tension the line would loosen and eventually foul the cable on the drum.
Like said above you don't need to pull it real tight, just snug. Heck my 3500# Polaris would bottom the front suspension, lift the rear wheels easily and hold them there forever if I wanted it to,lol.. Reason I don't use it as a tie down is if you look at how the winch is mounted I didn't like pulling on the winch at such an angle, probably doesn't hurt anything but I choose not to. Besides I want most of the security in the rear keeping the machine from flying forward when I have to nail the brakes because some idiot pulled out in front of me.
