Confirming Oil Injection Operation
#1
My 95 Polaris Sport 400 has not run in a couple of years, and I want to make sure the oil injection system is working properly before I run it much, or ride. Is there a way to verify that it is injecting the correct amount of oil, and I am not going to burn anything up? A friend even suggested doing an oil injection delete and just mixing the fuel myself. Good idea, or bad idea?

its not hard to check it. this is direct from the service manual:
Adjustment:
Remove the cover on the front left hand side of the motor (while sitting on it) with the engine idling move the throttle lever until engine speed just starts to increase. At this point the index marks on the cable pulley and the pump body should be aligned with each other. If they aren't aligned loosen the cable adjuster lock nut and turn the adjuster until the marks align when they are supposed to. then tighten the lock nut.
Pump Test:
Drain gas from tank and mix 40:1 and put back in. Disconnect the oil inlet line from the engine. Start the engine and let it idle. twist the cable pulley or lever on the oil pump to the full open position and loosen the bleed screw. Oil should pump from the bleed screw every few seconds. If oil doesn't flow check the oil lines and oil tank vent line for clogging or pinching. Check the inline filter in the oil line for clogging.
Bleeding:
Open the pump bleed screw exactly one turn (don't remove the screw) Let oil flow from around the screw for ten seconds then tighten the screw. Run the engine at idle Hold the lever on the oil pump in the full open position for 10 to 20 seconds. This will remove any remaining air from the system. Reinstall pump cover

Do you mean that if there is not heavy white smoke, then it is ok? When I started it there was some white smoke, and it idled smooth.

I bled the pump, and started it. It smoked white HEAVILY until it warmed up, then no more smoke. This thing runs great! I am going to hurt myself if I am not careful. Is there a certain type of oil that is recommended? Or can I use Wally world TCW-3 ashless 2-stroke? Polaris only? Amsoil? Something else? I really want to take care of this one, so don't hold back!
