ATC-110 Electrical Problem
#1
I am writing this thread becasue I spent a lot of time trying to figure this one out and the problem was obvious in the end. I have a 1982 or so ATC-110. One day it died and would not restart. I was close to out of gas so I thought that was the issue. Not the case. I thought maybe I picked up some trash from the bottom of the tank. Again not the case. Determine I had no spark. Starting checking the coil, CDI unit and pulse coil. The coil seemed week based on resistance checks so I replaced it. Still no spark. Purchased a new pulser coil. Fought the flywheel and finally decided to purchase the correct tool. Took 2 minutes with the correct tool. Coils looks good so I did not replace even though I purchased. Checked the kill switch. The swicth contacts changed state the first time but them I noticed that a few minutes later the they did not. Removed the tank to inspect the wires and there was the problem. The wires were severly damages where they enter the frame of the bike so the ignition system was getting shorted the entire time. I feel kinda stupid after the fact but hopefully someone can learn from my mistake.
