Electrical System
#1
hello all.. new guy here.
I have a 2004.5 Sportsman 500 HO.. I have the 60" Glacier plow on it using the Warn 2.5 winch.
I just installed 2 55w fog lights and I am thinking about adding some more lights on it..
Questions are:
1. can I add a battery to the system to help in not killing my battery
2. can i upgrade something to charge more
3. what are the limits of the current alternator, or whatever it is call on the ATV.
Thanks for all the help..
James
PS - I would like to add: strobes, backup light.. and maybe a 12v heater (enclosure is almost done)

Well most likely you have 240 Watts of output on your charging system. this number is most likely at mid to upper rpm range. The low beams are about 27 watts each and the high beam is about 50 watts and the tail lights are 8 watts. that is 62 watts if you run your low beams and tail light, then add in the fogs that you added and you are up to 172 watts. Chances are the pod and 4x4 along with other electrical components take up more watts. So, at idle the batttery light will most likely kick on if all your lights are on. Dont forget about the cooling fan, not sure on the watts for this. you can run 2 12v batteries in parallel to get double the run time, dont wire wrong or you would have 24 volts.
