Default 1997 Xplorer rear brake puzzle

My first post, I would like to say hello to all and thanks for having me
I just purchased a 1997 Xplorer. I was at first of all looking at cheap machines..then decided by the time you did a few things to a cheap machine, you may as well have bought a modern atv. SO in the course of trying to find something I liked for 4k ish...I came across this 97 for 2k...spose to have had work done to it. While nothing is really "SHOT" the stuff that was claimed to be relatively new isnt impressively so. The brakes being something that was expected to be in good repair.

I have been hearing a noise from the rear when moving, I was actually thinking it was a chain like noise, and not thrilled thinking I was hearing the chain from inside the tranny. I took the machine apart today to grease all the fittings and have a good look. I was very surprised to find the rear rotor loose. I tried to get the whole brake hub Ill call it...off. I was unable because it seems to require a puller, but this rotor is just floating around loose on some bolts. Can this possible be correct ? Does the rotor Just float on these bolts ? I didnt find either the service manual or the parts manual terrible helpful on this. Thankfully...this is the source of my rear noise.

This style does JUST FLOAT,have to keep a good check on pad wear. CAN be very noisy at times from worn pads, rust, etc. This is actually an update kit! I installed a bunch of these way back when. Be careful and dont over tighten the three bolts on rotor. The rotor hub is tapered and when the hub, plate and rotor are installed, the three bolts when tightened snug the hub on shaft.

Thanks for the reply, The active pad is very worn. Seems like a crazy system but I suppose it accommodates the calipers lack of a slider. thanks again for your help
