I have a 400ex and am getting into motocross riding. I have raced hare scrambles for years and the stock width of my bike is great. I would like a wider rear axle for riding on the track. I don't really have the money right now to dump into a new adjustable axle, although I was concidering axle spacers. Has anybody used them for motocross and will they hold up or am I going to bend my stock axle?

A new axle would be nice. The spacers should hold up. I thought the spacers were relativly expensive for what you are getting. I would rather just save my money and get an adjustable axle that would have a lifetime garuntee against breaking or bending. If I were you I would go for the new axle so you wont have to worry about your stock axle breaking and if you break the new axle you could get a new one since the garuntee and use your stock axle for a spare.

I have had both. I bent the spaced axle on my 350X when I clipped a 2" poplar tree on the outside edge. I didn't seem like I hit it that hard, but I did tip over when it happened.

I also had a DuraBlue X-33 on my 400EX that I broke off, landing a jump.

I now have a DuraBlue Eliminator that hasn't bent or broke yet...

I have seen guys running wheel spacers at MX. They seem to do ok. In fact, one race I came in second to a Blaster with wheel spacers. He was a super rider. Axles are pretty expensive so you could gamble it. I guess if you space it and it bends, you will have to get an axle. (Not that the new axle won't bend or break either...)
