Just wanted to ask some of you seasoned ATV riders if there's anything in particular that I need to know about this beast. I'm a very novice rider and haven't done alot of riding since I lived in Alaska several years ago so that's why I'm curious. I took it for a spin tonight, but I am trying to take it easy on it since it's brand new. Anyway, any knowledge you guys can drop on me would be greatly appreciated. It's my first ATV and needless to say, I'm pretty pumped.

Ahhhh, a new quad, Congratulations!! You might want to check the toe on the front tires, They seem to always be WAY out of alignment and the tires will wear funny. When you stop at a place that is far away from home and it won't start, and the lights won't work,, Check the red button!~! It has to be in the >RUN< position. (don't ask) and when it starts to run rough and won't run at idle, Check the throttle cable tension. Page 116 in MY owners manual. {06 500 x2}

COngratulations!!! Isn't it a great feeling, being pumped to ride, I still get that way everytime I climb on mine. Not much I can say, always figured the best way to learn was, hop on and damn the torpedos. Get yourself a good helmet and a better set of goggles or glasses. I found that batting gloves make the best gloves for riding, you are definately going to want a pair.Carry toilet paper always.
Good luck and enjoy

Silicon the pull rope handle down,once water gets in the recoil housing it messes up the Bendix drive, $300 stator and pulse coils. If the handle is sealed tight there no way for water to get in.

You also might want to check on a thumb saver
and a front bumper

Congrats!! I know the feeling and cant wait to feel it again real soon. I love my Sportsman, the best quad I have ever owned and probably have one the rest of my life. Do regular oil changes and keep up on the maintenance and it will last a long time. Good Luck
