Default Gasoline Grade for 600 Grizzly

I am currently using 93 octane gas in my four wheeler along with Klotz octane booster after having trouble with my carb. Should I be running this octane, or should I go lower. Suggestions???????

most atvs are set up to run anything from 83-86 octane. 93 isnt hurting anything, but your kinda wasteing your money buying it. Your paying for that extra energy that your engine isnt using. if you have carb problems, just clean the carb out, using higher octane gas wont help clean a dirty carb

the only thing that is really needed in gas is stabil and thats only if the bike sits for over 20 days at at time. the quality of gas that we get today is not the same stuff we used to get 10 years ago. case in point i have a lawn mower that in order to start it i have to take a coke bottle and punch a little hole in the cap. put some gas in it and spray into the carb to get it started. i used that gas for 3 or 4 times to mow (got tired of doing that and bought a new mower) anyways after the bottle sat for a little while i needed something to start a fire. thought that would be just perfect. couldnt even get it to light off. not even putting an open flame to it. or spraying it over an open flame. just like pouring water over the fire. put it out every time.
long story short stabil helps stop the fuel from breaking down like that.

Franci2, you use additives to cure a problem. What problem are your trying to cure?
EX: If you have a high compression engine you need high octane fuel or octane boosters.

A stock Grizzly does not have high compression why are you using it or want to use it?

I was using the octane booster to help with the carb bieng gunked up. I ended up taking the carb off and cleaning it which took care of the engine problems that I was having. I guess what you are saying is that with my style of wheeler I do not need the high octane gas or the octane booser unless I am going to let it sit for a while unused. I will start running it w/ 87octane and just a splash of Klotz for when I let it sit for a spell.

Your using octane boost to clean your carb. You should use fuel injection cleaner. Something like Seafoam will work necely if it is gummed up. If there is dirt in the carb you need to take it apart and clean it.

If you leave your quad sit for a while the best thing to use in the gas IMHO is Stabil.

koltz would be a waste, just use staybuilt. staybuilt will stop gass from breaking down, koltz wont. use regular gas and dont let it set long with out staybuilt in it or drain the carb.

All grades of fuel have Deposit Control Additives (DCA) in the fuel. Unlike 20 years ago when some Premium had more DCA most your major retailers put in the same amount of DCA in all grades of fuel. Remember, the Octane rating is just that, a rating on the fuels ability to resist burning. It has nothing to do with the amount of "energy", "quality" or ability to clean of the fuel.
