Mine will start right up after doing the same thing but it won't stay running. It takes a couple minutes to get warmed up. I think Honda's sport quads (That I have owned) have ALWAYS been cold blooded. But they run good once ya get 'em warmed up.

Both of my bikes start up just fine, but keeping them going takes a minute or so in real cold weather. I wish they were like my friends Kawasaki Mojave. When he pulls the choke on it to start it, sounds like the idle is raised also to help keep it running.

I got my 2001 400ex 1 month ago, and it starts fine evrytime. It does take a good 6-7 mins before it will idle, even with idle screw all the way in. It is about 15 -20 degrees here and I have to use the choke. It is definatly a cold blooded machine.
