This may sound stupid, But how in the world do you adjust the chain. I just bought a used 400ex and after my first ride I need to tighten the chain. I must be blind because I can't for the life of me see any way to tighten it... HELP

I just got mine, so I haven't done it but I know you have to loosen the four allen bolts across the back, they would bite you if they were a snake. Then you just turn the notched plate inside of the back sprocket to tighten the chain, then tighten the allen bolts back up.As far as I know that is all there is to it.

That's correct. Mine was difficult to turn. There is a notched piece just to the inside of the sprocket. Unfortunately I had to use a screwdriver and a hammer to get it to move. Turn it downward, as if you grabbed it with your hand to turn it. That will tighten it. Mine was much easier to tighten than to loosen. Also, the play should be 1 3/16 to 1 9/16. Whether you check it with the suspension loaded is still open to debate I believe. Change the oil and filter, and the spark plug. Check every bolt on your quad and make sure it is torqued to spec. Buy a Honda service manual for $40 at a dealer and check all the other stuff. Good Luck.
