Default 03 trailblazer 250 taking off starter help

my gf's TB 250 wont turn over by the starter, its got power going to it but it wont turn over so i guess i need to pull it off and check it out but its cramped under the engine like crazy so i figured id turn gas off and sit it up on grad bar and take off underbelly skid and take is off but it seems that maybe you have to pull the pullstarter off too? i was just wandering if anyone could shed some light on this for me for i havent worked on polaris atvs much, thanks

yes you have to pull the recoil off. there is one bolt that goes thru the recoil into the starter and 2 more under the recoil housing.. there are also two bolts on the back of the starter. the best thing to do is pull the clutches off along with the inner part of the belt housing to get at those 2 bolts. they can be taken out without doing that but will add about an hour to the job.

the starters on those motors are kinda in the wrong place and get full of water very easily. *most* of the time the brushes end up getting stuck and you have to work them free again. otherwise you can get a rebuild kit on ebay for em for about 20 bucks.
