700 efi dies when hot
#1
I posted this a year ago but am still having the problem. My '04 700 efi dies when hot, not getting fuel because it will hit with a squirt of starter fluid but it must cool for 10 minutes to really run. 3 dealers and polaris were no help. I took the covers off all summer and it never died but when I put them back on it started dying again so I am sure it is due to something getting hot. It still shows no codes. Has anyone figured this out yet or have any suggestions?

my guess of one of 2 things is either the fuel pump is breaking down when it heats up(some have had this isuue) or like was mentioned you could have a bad ecm. did the dealer run the vin# to see if your bike was on the recall notice?

I also have a 2004 700 efi but never had any problems with it but there has been a recall on these machines dealing with the ecm and fuel line check out the recall maybe that will fix the prob GOOD LUCK

you might be able to do a search on here for all the posts that had the ser# index ranage or just call the delaer to find out. i beleave caper knows(or someone) what the new one looks like so you could compare yours if you dont know if its been done oe not. just a suggestion.

Thanks for all the replies. The problem is a lack of fuel since a squirt of starter fluid always makes it fire up, but it won't stay running until it cools. The machine did go through a recall on the fuel line issue and I asked if there had been other recalls or service bulletins but was told "no". The ECM does have a new second sticker placed over the original so maybe something was replaced before I got it. I don't know if something in the electronics is shutting down the fuel injection or if it an intermittent problem with the fuel pump which was tested and showed good pressure. One dealer said they could replace the fuel pump and tank, another said they could try replacing the crank position sensor and another didn't have a clue! I don't want to just randomly replace parts until it goes away and apparently Polaris won't help the dealers with these issues. Any other advice or suggestions? Thanks.

Try wrapping the fuel line with some heat tape or putting some of that pipe insulation around it, my 700 did this and it was the fuel line vapor locking, I think. I put pipe insulation arround it from the carb to the gas valve and havent had it do it since.
