Default Tire Repair?

Just wondering what is the general rule of thumb for tire repair. I know some like the slime while others don't and just use plugs.

Any Suggestions?

i use both. tire plugs and slime in ned be. the thing i'm finding w/ the slime is that if the bike isnt used as much and cant be spread thru the tire it doesnt stop the leak as well. imo.

I carry plugs and a compressor. Slime causes too many problems with tire balance. Plus the guy who mounts and changes out my tires for free would probably kill me if I brought him another tire with slime in it. The insides of my old ones were a real horror show and made a ton of extra work when i changed them out.

I have heard that the slime causes problems if you don't ride for a while. Has anyone had the problem with it getting hard and throwing the tire out of balance because it doesn't move throughout the tire?

I was just talking to a buddy of mine about this yesterday and it seems most are going to just plugs.

mtnhiker - Let us know how that works out. I we have just used the compressor and plugs in the past.

Thanks

You can put a tube in the tire giving you trouble. I have tubes in all my tires.

Are all tubes the same? I called Discount Tire and the local motorspots dealer that sells almost all ATV's but Polaris. Of course they both have to order them but Discount wanted $12.50/ea vs $98 at the dealeship. There's looks to be a lot when I google too.

Dirt Trax T.V. show .....Had a report on tire repair........
He had about three tires there and all had different types of damage..
Plugs were used for all the repairs, EVEN THE SIDEWALL to get you out in a pinch!!

They took like 10-12 plugs and filled a sidewall hole in enough to get you out of the trail.......................................He even said some side wall punctures were plugged and still going strong after a few years ........But it's the allfull sidewall tear that I hate to think about on the trail.........You know a hole in the tire you can stick you hand in to...LOL...LOL.....Caper.........
