Default Garmin for Christmas!

Well the wifey and I went to Bass pro AND Cabelas today, and she let me pick out my Christmas present. I've been wanting a gps for the Popo so I picked out the Garmin Vista HCx. It seems like a pretty good unit for the money,it has the elecronic compass, electronic barometer for better altitude readings, color screen, and micro sd expansion.
I also got a RAM mount which I got to install this evening, that thing is friggin stout!
Oh and one more tiny thing I got was a "winch saver".
Anyway does anyone have any comments or experience with the Garmin?

PS. I think the wife is into torturing me. Now I have to stare at an empty RAM mount for a month. She said there was no way I was getting the Garmin early!

Got a garmin Legend HC. Love it! Great unit. Also have the RAM mount too! The RAM mount is awesome. Holds the GPS very solid. Never moves and is easy to adjust. Only problem I ever have with the garmin is it is very hard to read when covered with mud, lol.

Enjoy ( when you actually get it.)

Cheers

I have a Garmin so old it was discontinued years ago. Very rugged. RAM mount fits like a glove. Also rugged. Have dropped GPS on floor and on ground. Still works like brand new. Power cord plugs into cigarette lighter to save batteries. Winter cold kills AA batteries fast. Maybe in 20 years it wil break and I can get a fancy new one. When I got mine there was a Magellan for the same price that only stored something like half as many waypoints and routes. No regrets with my choice of Garmin and one RAM mount. I had a different type of RAM mount I didn't like.

I have a garmin venture HC - It costs $120 on Amazon.com - I love it, it works awesome, I even left it in my front storage compartment and it still read the trails. I hang mine around my neck as I ride, I like it that way, I can read it easily and if my biddies want to see it, I can just pass it to them.

A GPS has greatly enhanced my riding, I don't fear getting lost anymore, and I can relive my riding when I download my tracks to the map/google earth. I share my trails with my pals so they can ride too. I have found hundreds of miles of trails with it.

Make sure that you get the topo map with the GPS, most only come with a crude version of mapping, you really need a better map.

What is a winch saver?

Also thats a really good idea, downloading your tracks to be used with google earth. I will definantly be keeping that in mind.

a winch saver is a little rubber puck that you put on your winch cable to keep it from running in past your fairlead
