Default dont do what i did

my tranny got to where it was hung n a gear a few weeks ago on my 400ex, i pulled the motor(which involved takin a torch and cuttin the bolt that went thru the swingarm & motor)split the case & found a broke spring on the shifter shaft (problem found ,good deal) i put it back together &still not right & today the honda shop told me i couldve just pulled the clutch side & took the shifter shaft out & not split the case.i may have got the stops out of line & may have to split it again(its fun learin the hard way , aint it)

If your talking about the spring circled in red then yes the cases must be split to change it...

yep thats it , but they told me that u can take it out with out splittin it , & after i got to thinkin bout it , its got a cut out section n the case and if u can get the return spring off u should b able to take it out the clutch side

i just went & looked @ mine & i dont c any way of doing that , i think ill just split the case again
