You won't believe this

I was at this Polaris dealer last week, and the owner is really a hoot. This guy came in with one of those new can ams. I think they are around 800 or so cc. Anyway, he kept bragging about it, and the polaris dealer ask him if he would be interested in a pull off in the parking lot.
The dealer said he would pull him for titles, and use an used polaris. The Can Am guy hesitated, and then the dealer went out and got a used sportsman (smaller one I think around 450 or 500. The Can Am guy laughed at him and said sure, I can use that old thing around the farm. So the hooked up and pulled.
I almost fell over. The polaris pulled that can am down the parking lot. So then he let the can am guy start first and then he still pulled the can am backwards down the parking lot.
The can am guy was almost crying when the dealer started pushing his new can am into the service area. Then the dealer turned around, threw the key back to the can am guy and said "I wasn't really going to take it, but next time you start bragging you'd better do your homework"
I found out later that this guy has done that about 8 times, and wins every time. He never keeps the other persons machine, but just teaches them a lesson. After that guy left I ask him why, and he said that usually a polaris, even smaller, will pull another machine backwards. Something to do with the drive system.
I'm going to try it on my cousins when I see them. They have the big can ams. Knowing my luck, they'll win my machine. haha

if your talking about hooking the bikes together and having a tug a war, then yea of course the polaris wins by pure weight to the ground and a true awd. w/ traction these in low range will pull just about anything. now in a race on the other hand the polaris doesnt stand a chance.

Its strickly a weight - traction thing. Even the smaller 500cc polaris weighs more than a outy 800.
I own both a 08 700 sportsman X2 and a 08 800 outlander XT they are both very fun machines. However the outlander is way quicker and with the more H.P. it powers through anything better than the Sportsman.

Yep. Well put.
I used to say that my 800 could pull a house if you could get adequate traction. The popo's pulling power is amazing.

Haven't pulled a house yet, but did pull a industrial strength woodchipper up a wet, grassy hill that our trucks couldn't get enough traction on. It probably weighed 2500 lbs. X2 didn't mind it at all. I sure wouldn't want to go downhill with that much weight behind me.

Both ATV have low range and true AWD but the heavier ATV will have better traction. No such thing as a light tractor .
motor size 400 or 800 will not help much if the 400 is in low range it will never run out of power to the wheels,it would snap axles before that happens.
