Default Aftermarket exhaust Help

I have a 01 500 HO. i put a pure polaris aftermarket exhaust on it. You can see right though the muffler, however the sound it real loud. I realize any after market pipe is going to be loud, but this is louder than my fmf was on the 2 stroke xplorer.

I plan to snokel the exhaust like the swap series, could i put a removable can on the top of it with lots of holes in it?

Any other idea's on how i could quiet it down?

Thanks cause it made a noticable difference.

Search google for "Benz ATV silencer". It makes the 500 really quiet. I use it on my 800 in the winter for plowing snow so I don't wake the kids or the neighbors. It doesn't quiet the 800 as well as the 500, though it does a fairly decent job of taming the beast.

Either the Benz silencer or a smaller hole in the pipe will negate any gains you got from the aftermarket exhaust. It sounds like you got one without even a spark arrestor (is it marked USFS approved spark arrestor?). Both of my Pure Polaris exhausts are built like the Supertrap - where you add or subtract plates to change the sound and backpressure.

If it doesn't have a spark arrestor I'd put the stock exhaust back on.

can you explain? it has about 5 plates on mine, im gonna say it does not have a spark arrester. but i traced 1 of the plates out of 1/4 alumn. Then I drilled 3 3/8's holes, then put the plates back on. (this quieted down) i feel it made it snapper overall.

Remove plates to make it quieter, add plates to reduce backpressure and make it louder. The last plate should be solid and where you'd expect the hole to be is should say USFS Approved Spark Arrestor.
