04 honda foreman es shifting...
#1
i got a 04 foreman es, it will not shift, i checked the fuses, and the 30 amp fuse was blown, i replaced it, turned the key on and it blew again, i started checking things, connections and whatnot, then replaced the fuse again, turned the key on, and seemed ok. the fuse has NOT blown, but the shift indicator on the dash flashes 5 times and it wont shift. it is in neutral, and i can shift it manually with the tool, as i shift it manually, it does show what gear i am shifting into, but still flashes 5 times. also i can unplug the shift motor and jump 12 volts to that and it will shift just like it does when i do it manually, i have put a tester on the 2 wire connector coming from the ecu and i do not have any voltage.should i only be testing one wire and my other lead to ground?. i have taken out the shift motor and angle sensor & cleaned the armature & brushes, and reinstalled, i guess what my question is: does this mean the ecu needs to be replaced?

well, i did the tests for the flash code 5, 11 volts @ red/yellow wire, continuity green wire & ground, same going to shift motor. i plugged in everything, checked connections, turned key on, and everything started flashing really fast on the dash.... i mean every light. i turned off the key, checked the connections again, and turned the key on, everything seemed ok, i started the unit, after running for about 10 seconds, it pops the 30amp fuse in the back, turned machine off, replaced fuse, started back up, and everything seemed fine again, no flash code, but it still would not shift. i use the shifting tool to shift manually, & that works fine, but then i got the 3 flash code again. next thing i know all h-e double hockey sticks breaks loose..... lots of smoke coming from front end.... i turned off machine, look under it and noticed melting plastic around the 5 pin plug in the ecu. i unplugged the connections and removed the ecu, and can see that it was melting around the socket where the 5 pin plug goes.... so i'm sure the ecu is fried now, but....hate to buy a new one and the same thing happen. still dont know why the 30amp fuse blew, gotta be a problem somewhere, would like to find it before plugging in a new ecu.... anyone got any ideas...???
