New Banshee Worries
#1
Hi, my new 05' banshee runs well and rips it up hard!
I have several questions and concerns:
1. When shifting from neutral to first or neutral to 2nd, the gears engage with a loud clunk and I feel the whole machine move from it. This is only existant in neutral to any other gear.
2. I am running High quality polaris 2 stroke engine oil through it, my dealer says this is OK, but how should I mix it to make sure I get that 32:1 mix perfect?
3. When I wash it, can I spray the radiator directly with a hose, and is rainwater hitting the radiator a lot OK?
Hopefully some people can give me a little help/feedback here, thanks!

the shifting thing might be the clutch biting when you first start off but if it does it even when warm it might need to be adjusted or replaced soon, they make something called a Ratio Cup and it just looks like a little cup wth numbers and measurements on side, thats what you need to be the most accurate. as far as the polaris oil im not sure about using that with a banshee but if a dealer says its ok then hopefully there right, Klotz R50, Castor 927, Benol, Bel-Ray, and Blendzall are only oils i would run in a banshee, its ok to spray the radiator it shouldnt hurt anything, and as far as being in water ive seen some people go in real deep water and be ok, just make sure everything is sealed up tight if doing so such a dipstick and stuff, i wouldnt take it in deeper then the wheels though, but the maximum height would be where the carbs are.

Ok thanks a lot man, I won't be taking her swimming that deep any time soon at least. I'll also get a ratio cup and the right oil that I need! Also I like the smoke, which oil will make a lot of smoke and smell pretty good with good performance . I love it's smell a lot, my room is an edition to the garage and I park it in the garage, I get to smell it all the time! Btw, yes, it does the clunk while warm :/
One more question, (more will come, don't worry), the guy who sold it to me got a boost bottle but never used it, is there any harm caused by using it, b/c I've heard they don't do anything but I've also heard they make the throttle barely crisper. Anyway, is the installation hard on them?
Btw Warrior, that avatar of your is so distracting but so awesome, lol.

The boost bottle,I have friends that used them with snowmobiles and there really wasn't a difference. What it does(in theory)is whenever you let off the gas the excess is sucked into the bottle, then when you give it gas the gas in the bottle goes into the carbs. Also you have got to let this engine warm up for a good minute before you ride it.

Oh ya I always do that, especially with this thing, it's my baby, I feel terrible getting mud all over it here, like 3 in. of rain over the last 2 days, riding sucks, my lawn is feeling some pain! But ya I let her warm up a lot, stored in a heated garage, starts on 1 kick 90% of the time.

boost bottle are a gimmick there all junk, just like torque stuffer, trust me your stock crossover tube is alot better, i know for a fact that they are junk, alot of people will back me up on that also, if you want performance out of your bike just let me know, i could make up a good list of actual good performing parts, the installation isnt hard but its a very tight fit and will wear out your fuel lines eventually, and all the oil i mentioned smell really great, Blendzall is def my favorite though.

Yep I'll be sure to buy that oil at the dealer tomorrow. Also, what kind of coolant goes in the radiator, and is that little container under the seat just a reservoir for excess coolant? Scared me when I looked under the seat and saw it today, lol. Anyway ya that boost bottle was too tight of a fit for me to muscle on today. Saw your post afterwards and was happy I failed to put that piece of crap on!

I like the way Maxima oil smells when it burns, it has a sweet smell to it.
Usually you would put a 50/50 mix of antifreeze/water in the radiator. I have ran straight water in the summer and straight antifreeze in winter on some older machines I've had, but most manufacturers recommend a 50/50 mix.
On the deep water riding, I've seen Banshees cross creeks so deep that the front wheels were floating, but as long as the the air box doesn't go underwater and all of your seals & gaskets are tight it should be fine.

i dont think riding through water is a big deal as long as it doesnt get into the intake then your all set i take my honda 250ex through some serious water never had a problem except getting stuck in 2 1/2 feet of water
