Can-Am warranty offer fraud (a warning)
#1
While researching purchasing a pair of new ATV's for my wife and I, I visited all of the manufacturer's web-pages for information. The official Can-Am web-page was, and still is, advertising a promotion on "ALL NEW AND UNUSED OUTLANDERS..." stating that they come with either a 3 year warranty or some financing options. Not needing the finance options, I was excited about the 3 year warranty. I started shopping for a pair of Outlanders.
I found an official, licensed, Can-Am dealer, (650 miles away) that had the units I wanted at a great price. I made a deal on a purchase price for the two units, an 800Max and a 400,(three actually, I bought a DS for my son), and made arrangements to pick them up the next weekend.
I picked up my new toys and brought them home. I pulled them off of the trailer and put them into the shop. I pulled them out the following weekend to ride around the block and the Check Engine light comes on on the 800, so I take it to my local dealer for warranty service.
Upon checking on my warranty registration, they tell me I have SIX MONTHS worth of warranty. WHAT??? That can't be right. So I contact the dealer that I bought them from to get it fixed.
The dealer informs me that because I got a good deal on my units, that they only came with a six month warranty. This is BS. I contact Can-Am customer service. They inform me that the dealers are not required to participate in their promotions, and as such I am pretty much just out of luck. I DO however have the option of PURCHASING the extended warranty that I thought I already had.
So let this be a warning to all of you. My guess would be that a lot of you out there THINK that you have a lot more warranty than you do. CHECK IT OUT!!!

Thant sounds like a load of crap to me!!! When I bought My 400 outy new in 04 I got a smoking deal at that time$4500 out the door. I still got the 3yr warrenty with it. Something sounds fishy with what was said by ur dealer. I would do some deeper diggin on that.

you got screwed by the dealer....they r the ones who put the warranties thru...i beleive it cost them money to give warrantys and usually roll them in to our price and since you got a good deal they didnt make enmough money off you and screwed you out of a warrnaty so they could get more money....very shady on dealer....just report them or post who they r so we stay away..lol

That's not fraud. That's you being unintelligent. How could you not ask something like that when purchasing? Some could say that knowing how long the standard warranty is just as important as i dunno..... having an engine! I just don't get how you can not ask the dealership about the warranty, and then proceed to state that Can-Am or their dealership is frauding you when you didn't ask until after you had a problem. Really, come on.
Every bike that we've bought (Outtie and LTR) we've asked how long the warranty was. When I buy an electronics device I ask how long the warranty is.

That is more dealer fraud than BRP's fault. There's something the dealer didn't tell you before you signed on the dotted lines.
The guy probably gave you the lowest option in order to lower his price even more. That should have rang an alarm bell.
Don't forget that BRP products are the most expensive on the market and for a reason. Quality and performance.
You should have researched a bit more before signing in blood and getting a rebate.
I paid my 650 max 2008 full equipped pretty much the shelf price because most BRP dealers are not the bargain type stores and they usually prefer to give you accessory options instead of lowering their prices..
I got 6 months dealer warantee plus 36 months warantee from BRP , 2 snow suits, 2 rain suits and 2 helmets. Then a few weeks later I received my BRP warantee card in the mail.
I also financed my bike for 2 years through my bank.
Your dealer is a Used car salesman type Like Honest Harry and you should post his business instead of assuming that you were a victim of fraud by BRP.
I'm not taking BRP's defense here but give credit where credit is due.
I feel sorry for you .But let that be a lesson to those that run in and sign the paperwork without reading and understanding what they are getting into.

Canadian 144, you are being too hard on btstclark and not hard enough on that low quality salesman/dealership. They should know what is promoted by BRP and be upfront if they are not honoring the warranty. When you go to the BRP site that 3 yr warranty hits you right in the face so of course any purchaser should automatically expect it from the dealership. Maybe BRP should address and correct this too - it makes them look bad.

it is very unfortunate - btgtclark got screwed by a dealer. yes it might could have been avoided with more questions and being sure to have the warranty in writing up front, but unfortunate none the less.
it is appreciated that btgtclark raised the topic here, so others can learn from it, just as he mentions in the topic description.

I think that is more his fault however. They most likely do know what is being offered by BRP and not honoring it is their choice, and their way of saving money. He should really have read before signing. Although the dealer did do a d*ck move, it doesn't make it their fault.
The main thing I was getting after was that Can Am's warranty isn't a fraud. He was making it seem like the warranty, for anyone, anywhere, on any Can Am, had a warranty that wasn't a real warranty (from the title anyways). If Can Am actively looked at this board and saw this slander, chances are that he could be forced to change the title, if not sued.

Too bad he didn't post the DEALER's name and Business so others can avoid that bear trap.
As for the title of fraud against BRP, I would just add a Question Mark at the end of the title . This way instead of being an exclamation it becomes an interrogation text.
( Legal mumbo jumbo) LOLLL
Nevertheless, It's really too bad for the buyer in any situation. Money is hard enough to earn that having someone try to take the few dollars you have to get wealthy.
