Check simple things first, such as plug, does it have spark? If not replace plug, check with plug in cap against valve cover for fire. If no fire, remove plug cap, check for spark on bare wire to metal to eliminate cap. Plus air filter and air box for gas or oil (can happen in climbing, saturating filter and stalling out?

So do you think something happened to it while it was rolling backwards, or something happened first causing it to stall and then it just rolled backwards?
I would check to see if it's getting fuel, air, & spark. Does it have gas, if yes how about the fuel filter? How cold is it where you are? Anychance you got some water in your fuel and maybe the fuel fiter froze up? Give us some more clues and I'll throw some guesses then OPT will let you know whats really wrong with it and how to fix it.

it cranks over fine im not sure when it happened but i know when he got to the bottom of the hill he tried to start it and it just cranked over i tried starting it with the choke did not help it is getting good spark i was afraid it may have jumped time or something like that not sure on weather or not its getting gas. should i try spraying card cleaner in the card to see what it does.

You say it has compression and spark so yes, I would try supplying some gas to see if it will fire. I would use gas not carb cleaner. Use an oil can, with gas in it to either squirt a couple of good shots in the spark plug hole or shoot it down the carb throat. Take precations by having a fire extinghiser on hand and be extra careful not spill gas all over the place.
