Default honda trx 400 ex cylinder and pistion

Hello there, just wanting some advice if enyone has got any because i have run out of ideas! I have a honda trx 400 ex year 2001....

so enyways i have put a new cylinder and piston on the bike because it was burning oil when running! i have reseated the valves .. replaced all the seals in the top end. new head gasket, new spark pug new oil , adjusted the tappets inlet and exhaust .. set the timing to the "T" mark and to the marks on the cam shaft with the edge on the casing "top" and it seems to be getting fuel because it smokes when trying to start! and also back fires! compression is good!!!!!!

The only thing i dont understand is why it was running before with lower compression but now it has full compression and wont start

If anyone can help me out, please get back to me!

thanks for your time!

Danny

sounds like the timing is off to me. like its trying to fire on the exhaust stroke.

yup...what he said. you might of timed it right, but backwards. if you time it right, the valves shud be a little loose at TDC. if they are tight, its the wrong stroke!

if u didnt take the gear out of the timing chain u may have it 180 out , ive had problems the last few weeks to get mine running and it was n the timing , but i tore mine all the way down and even split the case , did u make sure the word "out" on the timing gearis showing @ bout 3 oclock and with the lobes up ?then roll it over till they r down before u put the head on

Will it start if you try and bump start it? Very possible that the plug is fouled out with all the failed attempts at starting it with the timing off.

First pull the sparkplug out and ground it to a bolt and cank it to see if it is getting any fire. Another problem could be your valves out of adjustment. You may want to check that.
