Default Hard to steer with plow installed

Like the title says, I have a 00 Sportsman 500 with a moose plow. With the plow off the machine runs and drives great. When I install the plow the steering becomes very hard and will pull hard to either side (in forward or reverse). Are the springs just overloaded? All my suspension and tie rods are in good condition also. Thanks for any input

you are corect in thingkinf the suspenion is over loaded. you ned to have heabier springs to help w/ the load and maybe a small amount more air in the tires.

I would agree... the Moose plows are heavy duty... you'll need some springs. As stendori said... more pressure in the tires may help some.

Where can I get HD front springs? All the ones I see are for the 05 and up.

One thing to consider since you enjoy the ride before you hook up the plow.......some coil spring rate adjusters. I know they make them for my 08 and im sure there is something for your older sp.

the problem is that the struts that polaris uses w/ their springs just arent designed to do alot of front end lifting(even w/ the newer models except the 09') and the only way to correct it is w/ heavier springs or putting in spring spacers to take up the slack from the famous front end sag(happends to most of them when you add extra weight to the front end)that happens over time. the adjustable spacers only give a very limited boost of 1" i think and since you have to pull it apart i would just get heavier springs or home made spacers. imo.

I doubt that it will void you warranty... Polaris has front end upgrade springs for your quad (and mine ) too.

See here:

Polaris Spring upgrade

I bet they will stiffen up the ride. I'm sticking with my couple of spacers for now... I can take them out after the plowing season.
