What qualifies as a "demo" quad??

Just to kill some time, was looking through the Honda House in St. Cloud, MN, they also sell Can Am/Skidoo, to check out their "ATV Blowout" sale. They had lots of nice quads, but then I looked at some of the Outlanders and Renegades they had in the back, they had a "demo" Renegade 500 for 6799, but it had 461 miles on it !! also, it had aftermarket frame skids, and a aluminum front bumper that was definately tweaked, like it had hit something, and the plastic was scuffed, like this thing had been trail ridden for several months. Several of the Outlanders and other Renegades were similar, 140-400 miles on them, scuffed fenders, visible wear on tires, but all with "DEMO" written on the sales tag, with a not-too-low price on them, in fact, a new Renegade 800R sitting next to the "demos" was only 700 dollars more!! So my question is,can they legally take a visibly used quad with a few hundred miles on it, clean it up, call it a "demo" and charge almost new price ????

Demo's are normally those ATV's that a dealer let's you test ride to see if you like them or not. Some confine you to a parking lot while others have trails, fields, and woods close by that they let you ride through. They can charge what they want as they have what is in demand at the moment. Some are good deals and some seem to be not so good.

Sounds like that one may have just been shortened from demolition derby.
Ask them if it's titled as new, used or demo. There's only two choices they can use.

man with the price being so close to a demo i know what i'd pick. my wifes bike was a demo and was marked down alot over a new one and showed no wear at all im thinking it was 1200 to 1400 under a new one. i dont know about your dealers were everyone lives we got one here that built a fence and parks new bikes in the weather were the sun beats on them all day. i dont know if i was to buy a bike from there i would want a discount on them bikes.

I think the legal defination would be a quad that has obviously been used but has never been sold or titled. If the dealer uses the quad and it gets some scratches etc. on it, it is still a new quad. OTOH, if you buy a quad so the title is transferred to you and park it in your garage - never using it at all, it's still a used quad.

I agree, but 461 miles ???? that could have been a summer of trail rides, some dealer or his buddy takes a new quad ,beats it for the summer, then cleans it up, and puts it on the floor as a "demo" so they not only got to ride it for months, but get new or near new price for it by bending the truth. In my book, a demo would have maybe 20-50 miles on it,from short rides around the dealership, or up and down the road, even then, it would take a boatload of "demo" rides to get over 400 miles on it.

I agree and you're probably right about the usage. Not much different than what some car dealers do - The owner or the sales manager uses a new car for six months or so, puts 5,000 miles on it and then they sell it as a 'demo'. Like you say, a true demo would have 20 or 30 miles on it from short trips around the dealers lot - a bike like that should be sold for several hundred less than a totally new model. Once it leaves the lot and hits the trails - no matter if it's not been sold, then it goes beyond demo and becomes used and should be priced accordingly.
I really don't know of any dealers who are willing to allow a real try-out on trails. The best 'test ride' I've ever been able to get is at some dealerships that have some dirt nearby to ride around in.

I just bought a "new" quad...had 24 miles on it. They said that they had just used for some plowing around the lot (which I believe). I got the bike (camo 800 XT) with a brp snow plow for 9300 (tax included). I thought it was a great deal.
