Man i don't get it. Why are we comparing the Raptor to a race bike? What the Raptor is designed for is a compromise between dune riding and trail riding. I am sure there are better atvs at both ends. The Raptor was never designed to be a MX only or a duner only atv.

I have read all these posts from some of the, they think, so-called experts comparing the carberator or the shocks or the width and so on and so on to a racing atv. The Raptor was never intended for this. And why would you want it to be? If some had ridden a true pro level, and I don't mean a local, atv you would know exactly what I mean. Take that bike off of the track and it is useless. You will spend all day trying to keep it from running up a tree when you gas it or you will be bottoming it every three feet. You can't go near a rock or it will be in your motor and if you put a skid on it it will drag the ground. Assuming you get thru more than 100 yards of trail before ruining your wide A-Arms on a tree, your tires won't turn except on a smooth, dry surface and will be flat before lunch. The thing will sputter when dew gets on it. And your rear end will ache because of the stiff suspension required to land the big air and to get thru the whoops. And after that hard day of riding you get to rebuild it because it lasts only a race or two.

So if you want one of these racers go for it boys.

Just for your information. When Tim Farr goes riding he rides a Raptor not the high strung racer he rides at the mx track. But we want to turn ours into what he leaves on the truck.

Thats funny I thought the raptor was designed to be a race quad.
The only sport quad I see that was designed for all around versitility is the scrambler series of atv's. You have a 4 stroke, 2 stroke, 2x4, 4x4.. thats versitility something the raptor will never achieve with it's over powered, gas hog engine.

You're Right! And ya know, I didn't realize it until recently when I saw a Banshee with extended axles trying to go up cliffs that Banshees, and, yes, my Raptor where going with STOCK suspension and A-arms. He fought that monster a lot...on a flat track, he'd eat our lunch, BUT, we weren't on a flat track, AND we have been trying to do mods without considering the consequences of riding...don't get me wrong, I love POWER, but after seeing my friend spend more money on suspension than I have on a few MPH topend, and still decide "IT'S NOT AN MX BIKE", I'm feeling very happy with an all around reliable ATV. RIDE OUT, PEOPLE!!!!

Although you made a decent point, What makes you think that just because most racers dont take their bikes off track means that they cannot? I have only seen one person try to drive up a tree, and he was riding a stock warrior!! Does this mean that warriors have to much power? Get real. TT Bikes (I will assume that is what you are talking about when you say "your tires wont turn unless you are on a smooth dry surface") are not meant for offroad, but a MX or XC Bike with an experienced rider would work you and your raptor like no other. I ride with highly modded (full race, minus the aftermarket frame) bikes and they are the fastest bikes on the mountains, and in the trails. I do agree with you that raptors are NOT race bikes, They are a sporty trail bike..You are probably going to respond by asking if MX and XC bikes are so hot, how come the pro riders dont ride them on the weekends... Well, maybe its because its not a PLAY bike, These racers must go to 14 (?) races every year, where they COMPETE, why would they take their $20,000 bikes out and possibly break them and risk losing the ability to run any more races?!?! Do NASA scientists take home supercomputers at night to play videogames?

scramdaddy400,

This isn't an argument starter, just a question.
How much more miles per gallon or miles per tank do you get with a 2-stroke greater than half the size of my 4-stroke?

I know that my Raptor gets way more TPG (trails per gallon) than my Banshee did. We rode around 25 miles the other day before we went to gas up again and I was still about 1/2 tank or more. We went to gas up mainly because one of the 2-strokes that was with us was already on reserve.

Ya I rather have an Over-powered(which it is definatley not) GAS-HOG THAN a UNDER-powered GAS guzzler. The Raptor really isn' t that bad on gas.

Thats a fine point to make,
BUT you forget, Most of these people are setting up for Cross country or Harescramble Racing not MX, and even if they want to put $12000 into an MX Quad they can surely afford a stocker to ride as they please. So if you see a raptor with skids, wheels, suspension, pipe, axle, etc. Dont assume they are MX ing and that it cant tear down a Cross Country track and take a worse beating than on a wooded pleasure ride and not survive. You have a good point but the point is some people may not take their MX bike and try to climb hills and beat trails. And if they do then they probably are just wanna be racers anyway. When you turn a quad to an application specific task like MX it should stay application specific to that type of riding. But If you ride CC its not much different than the weekend warriors out cruising trails, So theres nothing wrong with all you mentioned if thats what they are using it for.
