I just got a 1987 250x and it smokes like crazy, worse than most 2 strokes! Do you think it's the rings or what? By the way the guy wanted 800 and i got him down to 650. It has new rear bearings,chain,aftermarket axle,and a racing clutch. Any thoughts guys?

 

also it pulls great through the gears with good power, is what baffles me!?

 

mine did the same thing it blew black smoke but rode like there is nothing wrong, what color smoke is coming out of your exhaust, black, white, or blue?

 

ummmm I just got it this evening so it was kinda dark but, i belive it was a grey or blackish color smoke.

 

check your spark plug, if its carbon black i would start with the carb. clean it out real good. also make sure it has a clean air filter. seems to me its your carb, if it was your piston or rings u would see blueish smoke come out and you plug would be wet black color. i would start with your carb

 

well it it could have just looked gray in the dark too, i guess i will see tommorow. I am not doubting you. I am just saying this because the guy claimed he had rode it awhile back for 6 hours or so withouth fouling a plug?!? IDK

 

awile back? has this quad been not running for awile? did it run with old gas? but if u say he rode it awile ago it could have run good. they r good running quads and reliable.

 

he said like a couple months back. It ran the whole time he had it, but he said it has always smoked some since he had it which was mabe less than 5 months.

 

ic check it tommorrow i would check the smoke and the plug, u may not be fouling plugs but it has to have some kind deposit on it,
