rear tires for hill-shooting banshee?
#1
Hey. I have a mildly modded Banshee. It seems that most of my riding anymore involves climbing any evil hill I see. My Holeshots on the rear came before each of the mods listed below. With each mod I performed, I've noticed less traction. Since I shaved the head down, I can't seem to get enough traction to climb hills that were no problem before. I climb new hills with no problem, but once the grass is worn away I just lose momentum and spin in the dirt. Does anyone have any suggestions on what tire to use? I want something very aggressive, and something that won't pack if the hill is a little slick or wet. Thanks for all opinions.

Take my word on this:
Absolutely, NOTHING will out climb a set of Realtors on a Banshee. Get the 22" and run them backwards in the scooping direction.
Everybody who rides in the coal region of PA and owns a Banshee runs these tires. Trust me they climb some mean s**t!

400exrydr,
My stock tires are only 20", there isn't much clearance on the the side with the kickstarter between the tire and the foot rest. Is it necessary to modify the foot rest, or is there indeed room for 2 more inches of tire? Is this the size the Banshees you saw were using? Also, I heard that these are heavy tires and cause bad power loss. Did they not have this effect on the Banshees you saw? Thanks.

hey 400exrydr,
i am one of them that climb the coal hills w/ a banshee but i dont have realtors yet... neither do my riding buddies. If i get realtors will i outclimb all of my friends banshees, 250r, lt250r? right now i am using holeshots, which work good enough, they get up every hill, but if i put on realtors will it get up really good?
i ride at nanticoke, what about you?

yeah there is plenty of room for the footrest. One of the people I ride with has stock footrests and his Realtors fit fine
as for sucking up power, these 2 guys only have a set of pipes and they have no problem whatsoever
you should be fine

derek,
Don't you have trouble with Realtors on a 400?
I was a little doubtful about there weight on a 4-stroke and that's why I went with Blackwaters on mine.

Not to debunk 400EXs theory, but i owned a set of Realters on my 96 Banshee and i really didnt like them, they rode rough as hell and were very heavy.I would go with a set of 20in mud tires, any brand will do well, such as mud machines, super swampers, mud bugs ect. Usually the best mud tire is also good for climbing hills and rocky terrain. But the flipside to all this traction is a loss of power due to the tires high profile and heavy weight. But it really dont matter on a Banshee, just drop the hammer in 1st and they will spin without hesitation. 2-strokes rule!

They're great on the trail and climb decently. But I'll be honest with you, they are on the heavy side.
If I were you I'd seriously consider buying a pipe and silencer and maybe some reeds for that Blaster. In stock form it's going to be a little sluggish. Another guy I ride with has a 2000 Blaster with an FMF exhaust and Boysen reeds and Blackwaters and he loves them.
